In the recent past, we have noticed an intense competition in the tablet market and witnessed the launch of some highly economical tablets, such as Amazon’s Kindle Fire, Google’s Nexus 7 and the iPad mini. If you are to believe unknown sources for the Wall Street Journal, Acer is set to launch a $99 Android tablet in early 2013. Hailed as “Iconia B1,” the cost-effective tablet will run the Android operating system, version 4.1, a.k.a. Jelly Bean.

Intended towards developing markets, the low-cost device will feature a seven-inch 1024 x 600 resolution screen and 1.2GHz dual-core processor. The Iconia B1 is developed to resist the supremacy of Chinese white-box tablet makers who are expected to sell some 60 million tablets in developing countries next year.
