dioPump, dioWatch help diabetics control blood sugar level

Diabetes keeps haunting millions who’ve been bearing the brunt of this disease all their lives. People affected with type 1 diabetes have dysfunctional pancreas that does not make insulin. Consequently, with body cells not converting sugar into energy, diabetic patients look lethargic and feeble all the time. For helping such folks, a Norwegian designer Christian von Hanno has come up with a Bluetooth-enabled insulin pump that relies on an artificial pancreas system to deliver the much-needed respite from the chronic disease.

Dubbed as dioPump, the medical device keeps calculating blood sugar level in patient’s body. When it dips below a specific level, it provides the right amount of insulin to the body. dioPump integrates two technologies, namely a glucose monitor and an insulin pump. The insulin pump relies on an algorithm to provide right amount of insulin at the right time. Equipped with Debiotech’s Nanopump, the device uses micro needle technology for providing a virtually pain free cure to diabetes patients. As mentioned in the beginner, the Bluetooth-enabled medical device can synchronize with smartphones and computers. Therefore, users can control the dioPump with ease.

Moreover, it comes coupled with a status watch, called dioWatch that, aside from working as remote control, also collects and displays data from the dioPump. Like any other regular watch, the dioWatch has a vibrating alarm and can display time, date and year as well. The dioWatch flaunts a kids-friendly program called dioAvatar that makes avatars change their face expressions. So when the blood sugar level is good, the avatar has a smiling face. When it’s not, you can see gloomy expressions on its face.

[Cheers, Christian]
