CES 2013: Vuzix intros Smart Glasses to compete with the Project Glass

Google’s Project Glass appears to be the lonely stalwart when we talk about smart or augmented reality glasses. Featuring strong spec to give the Project Glass a run for its money, the “M100” from Vuzix is a series of Smart Glasses comes with a 1GHz OMAP processor from Texas Instruments, which is tweaked to run with Android 4.0. Featuring built-in apps that can be installed on your Android phone to connect to the glasses via Bluetooth, the new Smart Glasses also integrates a camera that can shoot 720p video and capture quality images.

Including Vuzix’s lens technology on an extendable arm, fixed to a headset, to project the 16:9 240 x 400 pixel image right in front of your eye. In addition you can go through your mailbox, web pages, videos, GPS information and other notifications from your phone on the projected color display. Presenting a compass, an accelerometer and Wi-FI connectivity, the prototype of M100 glasses will be showcased at CES 2013. Priced around (rather under) $500, the Smart Glasses is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2013.
