iFixit’s magnetic mat organizes all your parts while repairing a device

Repairing your portable gadgets, such as mobile phone, digital camera or MP3, on your own is often a dicey task, for even a lost screw can hamper the functionality of your device. Providing a solution, editor of Kevin Kelly’s Cool Tools Oliver Hulland has come up with a DIY repair station that not only keeps all the screws intact on its magnetic surface but also keeps track of the position or location of different parts on its whiteboard surface.

Featuring a fine-tipped dry-erase marker with wool on the cap from Staedtler for writing down and erasing repair notes quickly, the iFixit’s magnetic mat also includes nonslip foam backing that you can flip upside down to reveal cutouts to be used as cups. Measuring 8 x 10 x 1/32” in dimensions, the magnetic DIY repair station is available in two versions, standard and pro, for $12.95 and $19.95 respectively, at iFixit.
