i-SODOG: Smartphone controlled robot dog follows user commands

After tickling the fancies of bot lovers with i-SOBOT five years ago, Tomy has come up with yet another interactive robot pet called i-SODOG this time. The smartphone enabled robot was unveiled at the International Tokyo Toy Show. While i-SOBOT catered to kids alone, its successor aims to appeal to users of all ages.

Powered by 15 ultra-compact servomotor units, the i-SODOG robot dog not only flaunts extremely small size but is priced minimally too. A biometric sensor in its nose ensures better communication between the robot and users. Developers have provided this robot with a sixth sense, which allows the robot to communicate through static electricity.

A special-purpose controller and your smartphone app come together to control the bot. The dedicated i-SODOG app controls hamanoids’ movements like walking and running, aside from helping you download music for your bot. The robot can identify around 50 spoken words by using a pair of microphones.

Moreover, the i-SODOG mimics can shake hands and sit on your command. The developers might put the robot on sale in the Q1 next year for an expected price of 31,500 yen (US$400), including tax.
